If fiscally conservative Republicans obtain power both locally and federally, be prepared for the following:
1. Let's cut STUDENT AID FOR STUDENTS WHO AREN'T PRIVILEGED ENOUGH TO HAVE MILLIONAIRES AS PARENTS - Romney recommended students "borrow money if you have to from your parents" and "shop around" when asked how he would make college more affordable - http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/08/president-obama-pivots-attacks-to-mitt-romney-paul-ryan-education-plan/
2. Let's cut ANNUAL LEAVE SHARING for GovGuam employees - http://www.guampdn.com/article/20120911/NEWS01/120911008
3. Let's remove special pay for FIREFIGHTERS - http://www.kuam.com/story/19337771/2012/08/22/tenorio-more-cuts-need-to-be-made
Let us all keep in mind that these are the exact same people who strongly oppose increases to the minimum wage BOTH nationally and locally while at the same time eliminating taxes for the very wealthy. Their explanation for reducing taxes for the super rich = TO HELP PROVIDE INCENTIVES FOR BUSINESS OWNERS TO HIRE MORE PEOPLE. For EIGHT YEARS ON GUAM, we had a Republican governor and for several of those years we had a Republican legislature...YET BUSINESSES WEREN'T HIRING. For EIGHT YEARS we had a Republican President and for several of those years we had a Republican Congress. Tax cuts were passed for the super wealthy..YET BUSINESSES AREN'T HIRING.
Fiscal conservatives complain that too many people are on welfare and that they should get a job. Okay, WHERE ARE THEY GOING TO GET A JOB WHEN THE VERY SAME PEOPLE YOU FIGHT FOR AREN'T HIRING?
Republicans, how about you try doing the following =
1. REQUIRE THAT LOCAL BUSINESSES AND COMPANIES HIRE LOCALLY and if they can't fill the position(s), CERTIFY UNDER OATH that they can't.
2. REMOVE BUSINESS INCENTIVES FOR LOCAL BUSINESSES WHO DO NOT HIRE LOCALLY.
3. SUPPORT AN INCREASE IN THE MINIMUM WAGE TO HELP OFFSET THE HIGH COSTS OF FOOD AND GAS THAT your fellow business people SET THE PRICE ON.
4. SUPPORT A SMALL INCREASE IN TAXES FOR HIGHER INCOME INDIVIDUALS.
It always amazes me to hear that Republicans want to cut everything - the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Labor, welfare on Guam, Medicare and Medicaid...YET THEY WANT TO THROW MORE MONEY AT THEIR FELLOW RICH PEOPLE..
Hey fiscal Republicans, how about supporting the REAL PEOPLE before you start helping those who clearly DON'T NEED IT

LEGISLATIVE PRIMARY ELECTION COMMENTARY - DEMOCRATS
Perhaps owing to the contested primary for U.S. Delegate, thousands more voters took part in the Democratic primaries than the Republican Primaries:
RESULTS (source: KUAM News)
INCUMBENT, RODRIGUEZ, DENNIS - 7,721
FORMER SENATOR, AGUON, FRANK - 7,572
INCUMBENT, ADA, TOM - 7,447
INCUMBENT, MUNA BARNES, TINA - 6,833
INCUMBENT, CRUZ, BENJAMIN - 6,697
INCUMBENT, WON-PAT, JUDITH - 6,674
INCUMBENT, PANGELINAN, BEN - 6,660
SAN NICOLAS, MICHAEL - 6,570
INCUMBENT, RESPICIO, RORY - 6,392
SAN AGUSTIN, JOE - 6,382
INCUMBENT, PALACIOS, ADOLPHO - 6,306
INCUMBENT, GUTHERTHZ, JUDITH - 6,175
NAHOLOWAA, LEAH BETH - 5,401
GUMATAOTAO, GARY - 4,911
TOVES, BENEDICTO - 4,442
Most of the Democratic senatorial incumbents look to be likely reelected to the 32nd Guam Legislature, with the possible addition of Mr. Michael San Nicolas and Mr. Joe San Agustin. Senator Guthertz looks to be the most vulnerable incumbent Democratic senator. All Democrats advance to the November general election

PRIMARY COMPLETE...ON TO THE GENERAL
After an excruciating several hours before even the FIRST results were being released, the unofficial results are a mixed bag of expected and unexpected:
U.S. DELEGATE RACE: Incumbent Democrat Madeleine Bordallo handily defeats primary challenger Karlo Dizon by a margin of over 5,000 votes. The result was not unexpected, but the margin of victory certainly was. Our feeling is that if Dizon only had a few more months, he would have probably narrowed that large margin considerably. He still has a future in the local Democratic party, so look to hear his name being bandied about for senator in 2014.
Legislative Minority Leader Frank F. Blas, the lone Republican, automatically advances to the general election due to lack of any primary challengers. This was also not unexpected, however the amount of votes he received has to be enough to make sure that the Democrats do not fall asleep when it comes time to the general election. Running unopposed for the GOP nomination, he received over 5,000 votes. A strong performance considering Bordallo's 7,000 some total.
NEW RATING = While we still expect Bordallo to win reelection, the era of walking through elections without a sweat for her has ended. She faces a strong and energetic Republican opponent in Senator Blas. We now rate this race LEANS DEMOCRAT.

Less than 24 hours later
this news report appears. The price of oil in Asia (WHERE PEOPLE MAKE IT A POINT TO SAY THAT GUAM GETS ITS OIL FROM) has fallen. This comes less than 24 hours after several gas companies on Guam have INCREASED THE PRICE AT THE PUMP.
http://news.yahoo.com/oil-falls-near-93-us-stockpile-increase-063855712--finance.html
To our elected leaders, let us see how fast it will take the gas companies to LOWER the cost of gas.

Our "leaders" have failed the people of Guam
-price of gas continues to go up and down, in effect making the people of Guam hostages when having to decide what is more important to pay, food for their families or paying outrageous prices for gasoline or paying bills. How can we be satisfied sitting in our offices while mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, grand parents have to make judgement calls on what is the bigger priority? GAS or FOOD? It is disgusting..YET the very same gas companies that increase gas prices OFFER FREE GAS TO SPEND MORE AT THEIR STORES ><
-leaders continue to travel off island (sometimes for good reasons, other times for reasons that can barely be understood..Olympics?)
-corporations and big businesses continue to make millions of dollars in profit each year and need not worry about paying taxes
-foreign workers continue to be hired to fill local vacancies (once again in order to save money and to see profits).
-pushing for the buildup at any and all costs (with little to regard to the protection of Guam's fragile culture, heritage, customs and traditions, and natural environment) to make the RICH RICHER and the poor, well....poorer.
Laws need to be enacted that would prohibit individuals with close ties to corporations or businesses from being able to run for political office (CONFLICT OF INTEREST), but that ain't ever going to happen.
Sometimes our elected officials need to be asked one simple question, "WHO ARE YOU SERVING?"
