Less than 24 hours later

this news report appears. The price of oil in Asia (WHERE PEOPLE MAKE IT A POINT TO SAY THAT GUAM GETS ITS OIL FROM) has fallen. This comes less than 24 hours after several gas companies on Guam have INCREASED THE PRICE AT THE  PUMP.

To our elected leaders, let us see how fast it will take the gas companies to LOWER the cost of gas.

Our "leaders" have failed the people of Guam

-price of gas continues to go up and down, in effect making the people of Guam hostages when having to decide what is more important to pay, food for their families or paying outrageous prices for gasoline or paying bills. How can we be satisfied sitting in our offices while mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, grand parents have to make judgement calls on what is the bigger priority? GAS or FOOD? It is disgusting..YET the very same gas companies that increase gas prices OFFER FREE GAS TO SPEND MORE AT THEIR STORES ><

-leaders continue to travel off island (sometimes for good reasons, other times for reasons that can barely be understood..Olympics?)

-corporations and big businesses continue to make millions of dollars in profit each year and need not worry about paying taxes

-foreign workers continue to be hired to fill local vacancies (once again in order to save money and to see profits).

-pushing for the buildup at any and all costs (with little to regard to the protection of Guam's fragile culture, heritage, customs and traditions, and natural environment) to make the RICH RICHER and the poor, well....poorer.

Laws need to be enacted that would prohibit individuals with close ties to corporations or businesses from being able to run for political office (CONFLICT OF INTEREST), but that ain't ever going to happen.

Sometimes our elected officials need to be asked one simple question, "WHO ARE YOU SERVING?"

$$$ to travel to Olympics, but not to fund busses?

According to a report by the Guam Pacific Daily News, which can be found here:
http://www.guampdn.com/article/20120725/NEWS01/207250317/Calvo-travel-London, Guam Governor Eddie Calvo and his wife First Lady Christine Calvo were able to travel to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London for a whopping $10,000 which was funded by taxpayers. Evidently the people of Guam paid for such a trip so they can meet the Queen of the United Kingdom, who has so much power that she will be able to help the people of Guam overcome its deficit problem, late tax refund payments, no funding for school busses, no funding for extra teachers and education staff, and the list goes on and on.

Yet, a few days after Guam's governor and his spouse flew to the Olympics (accompanied by a security officer) a Guam senator introduced legislation that would cut the pay of Guam senators by as much as $5,000 dollars each so we can finally be able to pay for ONE SCHOOL BUS or TWO MECHANICS, because quite frankly we don't see us getting any more school busses with only $120,000 to spare.

We have no problems cutting or reforming excessive or unwarranted government programs (such as funding the Guam Territorial Band every fiscal year - WHEN EVERY OTHER COMPARABLE COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION HAS TO FUNDRAISE ON THEIR OWN or eliminating all DEPUTY DIRECTOR positions OR even eliminating the OFFICE OF THE LT. GOVERNOR. However, when the taxpayers have to pay $10,000 to send Guam's governor and his wife to the Olympics, we have only two questions that should be answered:

1. How many other state governors and their wives travelled to the Olympics at taxpayer expense?
2. Where was that Guam senator who now wants to cut the pay of the Legislative Branch when word first came out about the $10,000 Olympic expense?

South Carolina Congressman states U.S. SENATE is blocking buildup

So in the grand scheme of things, a member of the majority party of the United States House of Representatives (a party who self describes it to be strongly pro-military) and who many of the pro-buildup people here on Guam share at least that ideology with has said that the United States Senate is blocking the progress of the buildup. Which is funny, because there seems to be a small group of people here on island who will go to war and shed blood to project the image that a few Guam senators are the major blocking force of the buildup.

When it comes to assigning blame for the lack of progress on the buildup, maybe we should pay attention more to those who are actually near to the center of power in Washington and who knows what is going on behind the scenes instead of trying to blame local senators for political purposes.

Gutierrez announces write-in campaign for Public Auditor

In news sure to shake the political ground in the island's capital, former Governor Carl T.C. Gutierrez announced last night that he was going to run as a write-in candidate for the Public Auditor primary.

http://pacificnewscenter.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=26035:branch-confirms-gutierrez-in-the-run-for-public-auditor-as-write-in-candidate&catid=45:guam-news&Itemid=156

This definitely changes the equation for incumbent and former Republican senator Doris Flores Brooks. For a while it seemed that she was once again going to cruise to another victory without any opponent standing in her way.

Due to Governor Gutierrez's proven ability to garner thousands of votes, and the fact that he needs only 4% of the vote to advance out of the primary, we here at 671 Politics change our ratings for the Public Auditor race from SOLID BROOKS to TOSSUP.
